Impressions of the Long Night of Science

Our students participated in the long night of science with great commitment. On the evening of May 21, the general public was invited to learn about various immunological topics, such as vaccination, allergies and autoimmune diseases. The basic structure of our immune system was also explained.
This was done in three different ways. Besides classic posters, the visitors could also view pathogens under the microscope and especially the little guests could discover the advantages of vaccination in a playful way at a can throwing station and in a handicraft corner. An experiment on DNA isolation from strawberries rounded off the programme for children and adults. A highlight, not only for our visitors, was the prepared series of lectures in which our students gave talks on the various topics in the large lecture hall, discussed them and finally encouraged the public to take part in a quiz. All in all, the programme was very well received. Around 1 a.m., our team set off home, tired but happy.
