With anticipation and excitement we are looking forward to the Long Night of Science on May 21 – our students have planned a great program

Microscopy of parasites at the Erlanger Hugenottenplatz at the Day of Immunology
Educating the public at the Day of Immunology 2019

Especially since the pandemic, the word “immune system” is a much used term for explanations from politics and science and as a result it is also used more often by the general public. But what exactly is our immune system? How does it work and how is it structured? What happens when it is not working properly and how can I support its work? Students of the master’s program Integrated Immunology, which is funded by the Elite Network Bavaria, invite you to go on a journey of discovery together and take a closer look at the fascination of the body’s own defenses. With the help of well-explained information posters, small hands-on stations and the opportunity to take a closer look at parasites under the microscope, interested visitors can expand their knowledge, discuss and ask their questions at their leisure. Children (7 years and older) can also go on a voyage of discovery with craft, painting and can-throwing stations.

With the “Fascination Immune System – Presentation Series”, five prominent topics for our visitors will be highlighted by our students in thirty-minute presentations. With interactive presentation styles, the auditorium will be invited not only to be present, but also to think with us.

18:30: The history of vaccination – Live vaccines, inactivated vaccines and modern vaccine classes (German language).
19:30: Immunotherapy – Modern fight against cancer (English language).
20:30: Climate change – Will our immune system soon face new challenges? (German language)
21:30: Pandemics of the past (English language)
22:30: Attack from our own ranks – Allergies and autoimmune diseases (German language)
