From 28 March to 1 April, sixteen iImmune students had the opportunity to attend the European Phagocyte Workshop 2023 in Budapest (Hungary), which was hosted and organized by the Semmelweis University. As an international congress with a wide range of professional and young scientists as outstanding speakers presenting their latest findings and current projects in the field of phagocyte research, this meeting was the perfect opportunity for our students to gain a first insight into the scientific world. High quality scientific presentations, interesting and informative research posters, the possibility to network with remarkable experts in the field of immunology, as well as an exquisite selection of culinary delights during coffee and lunch breaks were offered to the students throughout their stay. In the evening of Thursday 30 March, the organizers planned a Poster Dinner, where participants could walk among the posters in the main hall and ask the scientists about their projects. This was an ideal way to interact with the scientists and gain insight into a variety of interesting and fascinating projects from several European working groups. The coffee breaks were also a great possibility to meet some of the keynote speakers of the congress. At the end of the congress, awards were given for the best poster and the best oral presentation. In addition to the exciting congress experience, our students made many memories during their stay in Budapest, exploring the city and spending their free time visiting famous sights and the lively nightlife areas of the city. Budapest itself has a wonderful repertoire of sights to visit, such as the Parliament, Buda Castle, the Fisherman’s Bastion or the Hungarian State Opera House. All in all, our Masters students had a very enjoyable and experiential time in Budapest. The chance to attend international congresses as part of the curriculum is a highlight of the programme, as it is truly a tremendous opportunity to build academic connections.  Throughout this stay, our Masters students could get a first taste of the scientific community, which wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Elite Network of Bavaria. We would therefore like to thank our sponsor for making this experience possible for our students!
